
The School returned to Great Yarmouth in 1944 to find the treasured playing field
at Barnard Bridge sadly neglected, and the pavilion burnt down. Miss Rayden retired
after 27 years as PE mistress and two years later Miss Howell left. Not
surprisingly the games results were described as poor. Miss Dorothy Capon joined
the PE department in 1947 and largely due to her enthusiasm and encouragement
things quickly changed.
Phyllis Nicholls took part in the All England Sports as a high jumper
Marie Ward was Norfolk County 200yds Backstrocke Champion
1st Netball V11 won the Norfolk Shield for the third year running
Jennifer Drake won the Norfolk County Tennis Singles Championship
Anne Pashley competed in the 100 yds at the Olympic Games
Four girls competed in the All England Athletics Championships
The School moved to new presmises. Miss Capon requested and got 4
hockey pitches and 8 hard tennis courts
Margaret Pascoe was Captain of the Norfolk County Hockey Team
Pat Donaldson played for the England Hockey 1st X1. School party went to
Wembly to watch her.
