Lunch at The Furzedown Hotel on Thursday 12th April 2018.
Was not exactly a spring like day for our lunch. Very thick fog and cold. We were treated to a beautiful garden full of tulips and spring flowers at the Furzedown, plus a warm and welcoming fire as we went inside.
Lots of ladies had turned up for coffee and chat earlier on.
The table seating arrangements went very well, as well as we can ever hope to achieve I think. That's a first!
50 ladies sat down to an excellent lunch and the service to go with it. Lisa, Paul and their staff always on hand to help.
25 ladies sent apologies: Ann de Peyer, Stella Kerry, Elizabeth Utting, Elizabeth Blythe, Dorothy Chenery, Margaret Higgs, Judith Blount, Rose Beckett, June Oakes, Margaret Ward, Grace King, Judith West, Grace Swanston, Valerie Barker, Janet Foxley, Janet Edwards, Joy Fenton, Val Huggins, Iris London, Anne Vafadari, Connie Compton, Diana Pond, Jean Humphreys, Sheila Smith and Janette Butcher.
Carole had supplied our archive with excellent photographs for 1951,64 and 69. Many names were added for our records. Once we have updated them all they will be entered on our Website and Facebook.
Maureen Haworth (O'Brian) 1941-2017 had, sadly, died since our last luncheon. Carole Owen, who had been close to her, told us of a very clever young woman who had entered the school at the age of 10 and done very well for herself. Her full obituary is on our website:

Jane Freeman (Grass) had volunteered to raise money for the Clock at Great Yarmouth Minster. It was suggested, and seconded, that £500 of our membership money should go towards supporting it. A cheque was written out then and there and presented to Jane officially.
Some very high quality photographs of teachers in 1953, actors in Victoria Regina and Pygmalion, were given to us by Margaret Howard (Self) to swell our ever increasing archive.
The actual music sheet and words of the School Song, was given to us by the granddaughter of Joan Youngs. It has seen better days but it is a nice item to keep.
Jill Fearnley (Stolworthy) mentioned that it might be a good idea to have our photograph taken and sent to The Great Yarmouth Mercury. Perhaps next time Paul and Lisa can arrange us in the restaurant somewhere. Unfortunately the weather was not conducive to sitting outside on the steps this time, even though it was officially Spring!
Our next lunch will be at The Furzedown on Thursday November 15th 2018.
